about Hexadecanoic acid
Chemical name: isostearyl palmitate
CAS Number: 072576-80-8
Synonyms: Hexadecanoic acid, isooctadecyl ester; Isooctadecyl hexadecanoate; Isooctadecyl palmitate; Isostearyl palmitate
Molecular Weight: 508.90252
EINECS/EILINCS-No: 276-719-0
CBNumber: CB4909532
molecular formula: C34H68O2
MOL File: 72576-80-8.mol
Palmitate is the major component of palm oil, The word is from the French "palmitique", the pith of the palm tree. Palmitate also called n-hexadecanoate whose Chemical Formula is CH3(CH2)14COO−. palmitate is the dissociated and observed form of palmitic acid at physiological pH. Palmitate is the anion of a saturated 16 carbon fatty acid, and the first product of lipogenesis (Fatty Acid Synthesis).
In metabolism, palmitate negatively feeds back on Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC) which is responsible for converting acetyl-ACP to malonyl-ACP on the growing acyl chain. Thus preventing further palmitate generation.
