Diabetes is a special kind of disease. There are high requirements on the daily diets of diabetic patients. Then what should people suffering from diabetes pay attention to in their daily diet? Following are some notices given by the experts.

First, although it is suggested that diabetic patients should eat less foods with high sugar content, however, it does not mean that they should not eat any sugar at all. For example, some fruits are rich in sugar, but at the same time, they also contain various kinds of vitamins, which are very beneficial to the body of diabetic patients. As a result, patients with diabetes must walk out of this misunderstanding, and clearly realize that not all the sugary foods are contraindicated for them.

Second, diabetic patients should limit the content of cholesterol in their daily diet. When the condition of diabetes is not well controlled, it will easily increase the serum cholesterol, and lead to vascular complications of diabetes, coronary heart disease and so on. Therefore, diabetic patients should limit the content of cholesterol in their daily diet, with less than three hundred milligrams per day on general. As a result, diabetic patients should eat less fatty meat and animal giblets such as heart, liver, kidney, brain and so on, because these foods all contain a large amount of cholesterol. Instead, they can eat more lean meat, fish, shrimp and so on.

Third, eating soft food will make the blood sugar rise rapidly. If the rice is made into porridge, some of the starch will be changed into dextrin, which is more easily digested and absorbed than starch. So it will soon change into glucose in human body, so that to make the blood sugar rise rapidly. As a result, patients with diabetes should not eat too much soft food. On the contrary, hard foods are more suitable for them, because these foods are slower to be digested, so that they will not make the blood sugar rise rapidly.

Fourth, although the foods with high glycemic index may have greater impact on the blood sugar after the meal, however, if only eating foods with low glycemic index, it will easily lead to nutritional imbalance. The effective way of controlling the blood sugar after meal is to mix the high-glycemic-index food and low-glycemic-index food together, so as to reduce the impact of food on the blood sugar after meal.
